Lui Hrobelsky

Ottawa section members mourned the loss of Lui Hrobelsky (72 years old) on Sunday morning, August 23rd, 2020, near his home town of Kemptville. He collided with a truck making an improper left hand turn.

By strange coincidence Lui and I worked together for a couple of years at the same Ottawa engineering company, Hovey and Assoc. back in the mid 70's. This company had won a large Canadian Army defense contract that required design work. When the contract ended, we parted ways but Lui called me once to say he got a job at the Ministry of Transport where he stayed until retirement. After 30 years we ran into each other in 2003 when he joined CVMG!

As an Ottawa member, Lui pretty much stayed in the background, but religiously attended the rallies in Ottawa, Paris and Ormstown.

His passion was restoring every year and model of vintage Hondas, but the odd time he dabbled with Yamahas and Suzuki's.

He was a guru for Hondas and will be sorely missed by fellow Japanese bike owners.

It was with great sadness that Maureen and I learned of Lui's passing. We had purchased several of Lui's superb bikes over the years and always enjoyed the long trips to go see him. His attention to detail and his restoration work was outstanding. He was always kind and outgoing and always wanted to be sure his clients were happy. Ride on Lui we always think of you when we run your machines.
