CVMG National Experience in 2010

I have always felt that activities along with the memories they create are what binds a group and I have one that could be quite interesting.
A CVMG coast to coast ride with ONE bike that is passed from group to group allowing each chapter to meet and get to know the next as they pass it off. The CVMG national would be required to be involved in the purchase of the bike is handled appropriately. Each potential rider or club would contribute to the purchase cost and as the cost is spread across the country on one chapter or individual will be needing to pay a great deal. Adding to the challenge of getting the bike across Canada will be the fact that the bike should be no younger than 1980 and cost no more than $1500. (A small amount of insanity always adds to the value of an experience.) Of course there will be a chance of break downs that the chapters will need to come together to fix. Then each chapter will be required to coordinate the ride through their province and with the next chapter plan the pass off. Photos along with stories of the journey could be posted on the national site and the bike at the end could be auctioned off for a national charity.
So who is up for a little ride?

Just wondering how ownership and insurance would be set up for this bike. Whose name would be on the ownership, and how would insurance coverage work for this project, with multiple riders taking part in the exercise. Would this be considered a higher than normal risk for an insurance company to take on?

Every member sign it, then raffle it off or donate? Seen a fairing in the Trev Dealy museum like that.

Shaun's suggestion was passed on to the full executive and discussed briefly during the meeting on January 25th.  Concerns similar to those brought up by Frank Nickel were noted and I have sent an e-mail to Dalton Timmis Insurance outling his idea and suggesting some possible ways around these and asking for their reaction as well as any suggestions they might have.  I hope to have something additional to report on this for inclusion in the March Newsletter.  Stay tuned.
