Getting Ownership/Title for a Motorcycle

just went through this again last week: small town Madoc, the service Ont said she could not do a search until she had the affidavit  (180 from past normal), So I get  the doc from my Township clerk Duly stamped with the press (free). go back with a MOT appraisal form filled out by a car shop authorized to do that (cost $40) Then she says after filling out the form she cannot complete because she does not have a required stamp. sends me to Flinton where I stand in line again. The Fliton lady asks why she sent me there, re the required stamp; she says you have the stamp on the affidavit. Now its in my name.

Next up I go in later in the week to get plates for a GT500 filled out all, lady say OMG we do not have a motorcycle plate here.......... going south any way so get one in Trenton.

Long and short small towns can be more forgiving but some times do not know all the rules and short cuts etc. Paul.

I returned to the Ministry yesterday with my new Affidavit, no issues at all.  I also wasn't charged to have the revised document commissioned.  I was given a hard copy of the requirements they look for at the counter.  I am sure it is online somewhere however I am happy to scan and share if anyone is interested.

    Regards,

    Jon

Here is what you need > SEE  PHOTOs  ......... Keep it this simple .....KEEP THE RECEIPT THIS SIMPLE  also  ,with a reasonable price  { Too low & they may ask  for an appeaisal  } ......The more you add the harder it gets ...IF you have a problem at SERVICE ONTARIO >>> GO TO ANOTHER ONE ...Some  know what they are doing  /  SOME DON'T  !!!!!!

***  NOTE  >  A simple way to do a SEARCH   is to tell SEREVICE ONTARIO   >  I am thinking of buying a BIKe ,  with NO   documents available  ...Then give the  MAKE  &  VIN { SERIAL  NUMBER on either FRAME or MOTOR  } and ask for a  UVIP  { UsedVehicleInfoPack }.You only have to pay the $20  FEE IF THEY FIND SOMETHING   !!!!

Just did it this afternoon. I made the listed on the first page but no seller. Given bike as gift. First try listing $300 value they said any vehicle 20 years or older MUST get an appraisal. Luckily I know a used car dealership owner. Second time I have an ownership. Person behind counter was a little unsure how exactly to do it. Had to call head office.

Now or for a closer look at what I bought. 1970 BMW R60/5

You  went to too much  trouble  ....I've done it many times in last 50  years ...Just  did a 1935 HD  a  month ago  >NO APPRAISAL  & No Dealer letterhead > they were NOT NECESSARY ....JUST AFFIDAVIT    ...NEXT  TIME  JUST TRY ANOTHER  " SERVICE ONTARIO " OFFICE   /..

Does anyone have experience with this process in Quebec?

I wonder if I can get a 1967 Honda S65 with no papers registered here. I couldnt find the appropriate info on the SAAQ website.

You can   do it in ONTARIO or have a  friend  do it in ONTARIO  then  do a  transfer to  QUEBEC ......We  have  COMMISSIONERS  or  NOTARY  PUBLIC    in  ONTARIO .  They  are  paid  by the  government  &  will give advice  or  sign  AFFIDAVITs  for  FREE ...You  must  have  similar  in QUEBEC  ...ASK them  how  to  get regitrastion  for a  vehicle  with NO PAPERWORK ....

IT is all based  on  an  OATH a sworn  AFFIDAVIT  ,  which  has  more  strength  than  anything in the MINISTRY of  TRANSPORTATION  &  therefore should be able  to get you a registration  anywhere ....

Thanks George. Here in Quebec we dont have Notary Publics. All lawyers are commissioner of oath (my wife is one) but I think an actual notarized document would hold more strength.

I'm sure I'll have to do a vehicle record search with the SAAQ. I was just curious if anyone else had info or experience with this process in Qc.

I do like your idea though if the SAAQ is unreasonable or wont register it I can always try in Ontario and then transfer it.
